DAVID RUIZ – 49 (22 when comet hit). He’s a first generation American whose parents emigrated from Peru. David grew up in Colorado Springs and joined the Air Force at 18. He was an excellent pilot until he lost vision in one eye. He made up for it academically and became a flight engineer at Peterson Air Force Base. His computer models for aerodynamic enhancements caught the attention of NASA, and he became part of the defense team responsible for deflecting Comet 23. At home, David applied his expertise on solar and wind power so the clan could power the necessary utilities for survival after the comet hit. David never imagined they would be relying on this technology for decades to come. David is the father of Mary, Lucas’ wife who died giving birth to Milo.
